Buoyed by a sweep in swimming, Area VIII, represented by NOPSSCEA athletes, seized early command as the 2007 Palarong Panlalawigan heads to its fourth day today in Bacolod City .

NOPSSCEA's high school athletes scored maximum points in swimming (see related story), one of two events with 30 points at stake for team champions, and cornered the boys and girls' badminton title at the Riverside College courts yesterday.

Counting the second-place finish in archery, which was equivalent to 20 points, NOPSSCEA now has 112 points to pace the secondary division with defending champion Area IV --- which took the boxing title yesterday ---- in third with 65.

Another NOPSSCEA swimming campaign in the Palarong Panlalawigan climaxed in a blaze of glory at the Panaad Olympic Pool in Bacolod City yesterday.

The elevation from the elementary to the high school division barely mattered for Kiefer Piccio, who came in fully-armed and prepared to sweep his five events and fuel two more relay victories.

Marking her last provincial Palaro, high school senior Krestia Angela Lacson made sure it would be a memorable one, duplicating Piccio's feat of seven gold medals, including two relay wins.

The Philippines bagged four golds yesterday but slipped further back in the overall standings as Indonesia and Malaysia whipped up a storm in the 24 th SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima , Thailand .

Former world champion Ronnie Alcano ruled billiards' 8-ball singles, while diver Sheila Mae Perez and boxer Annie Albania and the women's compound team in archery kept their titles.

The victories improved the Filipinos' total haul to 33.
