Patrolling soldiers of the 61 st Infantry Battalion discovered a grave site of the New People's Army in Brgy. Mantakil, Siaton, Negros Oriental, on Saturday, the military said yesterday.

Lt. Col. Romeo Basco, 61 st Infantry Battalion commander, said the skeletal remains discovered in the grave site were of a certain Ka Ere, who was killed in an encounter with members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade on March 2005, in Brgy. Tayac, Siaton, Negros Oriental.

Draft HR action plan: Arroyo

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed the Presidential Human Rights Committee yesterday to begin drafting the country's National Human Rights Action Plan and Program that will “set the roadmap for human rights work for the next five years,” a statement from the Office of the Press Secretary said.

In her speech keynoting the commemoration of Human Rights Week held at the Heroes' Hall in Malacañang, the President urged all participants, stakeholders and sectors to participate in the human rights plan drafting to highlight the “importance we give in the promotion and protection of human rights shared by the entire family of man.”

“The Presidential Human Rights Committee, chaired by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, shall begin activities necessary to bring all stakeholders in consultation for a National Human Rights Action Plan and Program, which will set the roadmap for human rights work for the next five years,” the President said in the statement. .

Farmers featured at NBN

The best practices of Fedilita Dagumo and Genaro Suan, both farmers and scientists, of Lazi and San Juan , in Siquijor, will be featured this month in the Mag-agri Tayo Segment of the National Broadcasting Network-4 in Manila .

Dagumo and Suan are beneficiaries of the P150,000 Science and Technology demo farm on organically known peanuts project of the Siquijor Farmers Information and Technology Services Consortium.
