Who said Gloria
will yield in 2010?
One must be quite naïve to believe that GMA will yield to the constitutional mandate that says she cannot run again in 2010. She acts like a clone of Marcos and therefore is expected to perform like the former strongman. Power is intoxicating and the more you have it, the more you will crave for it. It's an addiction.
It's only through the Charter Change (Cha-Cha) that she could run again as a member of Parliament and then become Prime Minister or President. The Lower House could easily pass the bill because she has control of it. The fight will be in the Senate. If the majority of the senators can refuse an unrefusable bribe like a billion pesos each, then Cha-Cha is dead. Otherwise, only Mar Roxas, Manny Villar, and a few exceptional ones will be voting against it.
I'll cite to you why I believe Gloria will push her way. During the 1971 Con-Con, when Marcos was not yet open for a Parliamentary form of government, whenever we had a committee meeting on the forms of government, those sincerely opting for a parliamentary form could not even fill up one small table and the rest of us for Presidential occupied a very long table. When the Palace ordered to carry the Parliamentary form, we who stood for Presidential could no longer fill up one small table. That is why I believe the Senate and the Lower House will pass the Cha-Cha of Gloria.
Now comes the plebiscite for the approval of the Charter Change. With the Commission on Election run by the likes of Abalos, the yes voted will breeze through in the whole Philippine archipelago.
But we must not lose hope. Somebody up there will finally say “Enough!” and someone down here will end up like the unlamented Marcos. “El Hombre propone, Dios dispone.” Everyone knows this by heart.
