dominates swimming

NOPSSCEA athletes dominated the swimming events of the Palarong Panlalawigan yesterday at the Panaad pool, harvesting 24 out of the 28 gold medals at stake.

Leading the NOPSSCEA charge was Kiefer Piccio who finished the day with four golds -- 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 individual medley, and 4x100 medley relay -- in events for secondary boys while Joshua Balinas duplicated the feat in elementary boys events with four golden marks from 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 4x100 free relay, and 4x100 medley relay.

In the secondary girls category, Krestia Angela Lacson collected three golds from 400 free, 100 IM, 4x100 free relay team while Danna Mae Testa grabbed the gold in elementary girls' 200 free and 50 fly with teammate Mary Angela Pandan finishing first in 50 back and 200 IM.

Testa and Pandan shared the gold with Tanya Chloe Rosales, and Oropel in 4x100 medley relay. Rosales also took the gold in 100 breaststroke while her sister Vanessa was part of the secondary girls 4x100 free relay team that won the gold.

Slipping from the grasps of the Bacolod City athletes were the golds in secondary boys and girls 200 breastroke won by Area IV swimmers Melvin Padronia and Rowena Sumaria.

Area VII elementary boys' swimmer Ryan Sta. Maria salvaged another gold in 50 butterfly.

Swimming events will continue today at the Panaad pool starting 8 a.m.*NAB
