Christmas Village
opens in Silay

The Christmas Village was opened recently at the Silay City public plaza to accommodate pilgrims and tourists during the yuletide season, a press release from Silay said.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said the theme of the village is “Silaynon Solidarity with the Holy Family.” It features the Belen facing the San Diego Pro-Cathedral with life-sized characters made by Achilles Corteza, tourism resident artist, and his staff.

A giant Christmas Tree of Life is located at the center of the village that symbolizes the cultural lifestyle of the Silaynons.

 

Special features are life-sized angels, kings, and shepherds as contribution of the schools, Negros artists and the 16 barangays of Silay, the press release said.

Meanwhile, the icon-making contest was sponsored by the Silay City Tourism Development Council. Judges are Bamboo Tobongbanua, John John Ditching and Stella Legaspi.

Winners in the following contest levels are: Angel Category: 1st place, Silay South Elementary School ; 2nd place, Lantawan Integrated School ; and 3rd place, Don E. Hofileña Mememorial Elementary School; Shepherd Making: 1st place, Brgy. Patag; 2nd place, Brgy. Guimbala-on, and 3rd place, Brgy. II; King Making: 1st place, Jojit Hermosura; 2nd place, Alvin Infante; and 3rd place, Katsang Ala ; and the Tianggi sang Barangay: 1st place, Brgy. Balaring; 2nd place, Brgy. Capt. Ramon and 3rd place, Brgy. Guinhalaran, the press release added.*

Fedkaciwa holds
annual assembly

The Federation of Kabankalan City Women Association held its 10th annual general assembly at the Kabankalan City Plaza , Sunday, a press release from the city said.

A parade of members kicked off the activity, followed by a program with Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco, Board Member Adolfo Mangao Sr., Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr., Councilors Raul Rivera, Ricardo Regalia Jr. and Joan Cagape, and Vice Mayor Delia Anacan as speakers.

Hernan Divinagracia, community affairs section head, gave the closing remarks.

 

More than 3,000 members from the 136 associations in the different sitios and barangays of Kabankalan participated in the assembly.

Mayor Zayco assured the members that he will set aside an additional funding for their livelihood projects next year.

Fedkaciwa will elect its new officers next year and will revise its constitution and by-laws, the press release said.

Members of the group are engaged in various livelihood programs such as livestock loan, micro-lending for sari-sari store and fertilizer loan for their farms.

The current Fedkaciwa board of directors are Lourdes Senope, president; Noemi Traveña, vice-president; Alicia Gensoli, secretary; Nilda Gellecanao, treasurer and Mila Asupan, auditor.

Members are Leonida Padilla, Marjorie Cuenca, Gemma Cabañas, Elsa Ga, Merlinda Makilan, Erlinda Riopay, Charry Lubrico, Flaviana Montesino, Magdalena Fernando and Nenita Aplaon, the press release added.*

AT FESTIVAL
Adobo recipes rediscovered

The 1 st National Adobo Festival held recently in Silay City rediscovered the cultural value of adobo and how versatile the dish can become, a press release from event organizer said.

It motivated students, enthusiasts, and chefs from different schools and professions to create innovative adobo recipes.

The dinner for a cause called “Maghirupay Kita” gathered gourmets and gourmands and became a vehicle of art, food and charity exchange. Also held were food lectures, and revival of slow cooking and use of organic ingredients, the press release said.

The festival was bankrolled by the province of Negros Occidental, city of Silay, Department of Tourism, Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson (Neg.Occ., 3 rd Ditrict), and other corporate sponsors, the press release added.*
