Avsecom to enforce
tight airport security

A three-day seminar was recently conducted by the Avsecom Security Group in Dumaguete City , as a preventive measure against terror threats.
Citing the recent bombing incidents in different parts of the country, including that in the Batasan Pambansa, Avsecom Security Group commander Capt. Gazba Miller Guzman stressed the importance of checking the baggage of every personnel in the airport.
Training participants included concessionaires, pedicab drivers, personnel from the Air Transportation Offfice, security agencies manning the airport, cargo handling personnel, the Civil Security Unit, and representatives of airline companies. 
| Prov'l PNP launches Police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, has ordered all PNP stations to observe the “Oplan Iwas Paputok” campaign all over Negros Oriental starting yesterday. He said this is aimed at giving importance to the safety handling of firecrackers, and prevent accidents and other physical injuries from the use of pyrotechnics. Every year, the police conducts a study of the number of accidents caused by firecrackers, Buenafe said. . |
| University to revive Foundation University in Dumaguete intends to become a center for cultural revival in the city with the holding of the Kasadyaan Festival every second week of December. Cultural officer Carmelo Elli of FU yesterday said the event started as a mardi gras festival focusing on customs and clothes, and patterned after the Lenten parade in Europe . This year's theme is “Have wings, will fly.” Under the leadership of university founder Leandro Sinco, the festivity was changed into a parade of lights and lanterns. |
