Prov'l PNP launches
Oplan ‘Iwas Paputok'
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, has ordered all PNP stations to observe the “Oplan Iwas Paputok” campaign all over Negros Oriental starting yesterday.

He said this is aimed at giving importance to the safety handling of firecrackers, and prevent accidents and other physical injuries from the use of pyrotechnics.

Every year, the police conducts a study of the number of accidents caused by firecrackers, Buenafe said.

Meanwhile, the Firearms, Explosives and Security Agencies/Guards Supervisory Section in Negros Oriental will implement strict monitoring of the sale of firecrackers, especially in Dumaguete City .

FESAGSS officer, Insp. Canuto Balneg, said his office will check all documents and permits of firecracker stalls in the province.

He said an ordinance in Dumaguete mandates that the sale of firecrackers be done only in a designated area.

They will also look into activities of firecrackers businessmen who will be transporting their products from Dumaguete to other places, Balneg said.

Buenafe said the sale of firecrackers might be taken advantage of by terror groups.

He assured Negrenses, though, that Negros Oriental remains peaceful despite the red alert status in line with the celebration of the Universal Human Rights Day Monday.*MA
