The 600 barangay captains throughout Negros Occidental will gather in the 12 cities and 19 towns of Negros Occidental today to vote for the officials of their Liga ng mga Barangay chapters.

The election of the LnB officials in Bacolod , a highly urbanized city, is set on Dec. 29.

The presidents of the LnB chapters will represent the barangay captains in their town and city councils.

Department of the Interior and Local Government guidelines state that the election of officials of the LnBs are scheduled today for the municipal and component city chapters; on Dec. 29, for the provincial, metropolitan, highly urbanized and independent component cities chapters; and January 29, 2008, for the national chapter.

For the LnB elections, there will be a board of election supervisors at all levels to be chaired by the DILG officer with the Commission on Elections representative and a non- government/people's organization representative, as members, the DILG said.

The DILG will supervise the conduct of the local LnB chapter elections.*CPG
