| Applications for the search for “Hara Sang Negros 2008” is now open in the City of Kabankalan as part of its 32 nd Sinulog Festival to be held on Jan. 18, 2008, a press release from Kabankalan said.
Rogelio Diaz, head of the Sinulog beauty search committee, said the title was changed to “Hara sang Negros ” from Sinulog Queen in line with the decision of the pageant to go island-wide.
Diaz said that invitations are now forwarded to all local government units in Negros island to send their candidate. No screening is needed for candidates endorsed or recommended by their LGUs, the press release said.
The contest is open to contestants recommended and endorsed by their LGUs, who are between 15 and 22 years old, at least 5 feet 4 inches in height, and at least high school seniors of good moral character, among others.
The crown holder must be present to turn over the crown to the succeeding Hara sang Negros , a year after her reign.
Candidates not endorsed by her LGU should undergo screening at the Function Room of the city hall at 9 a.m. on Dec. 20, the press release added.*

IN MURCIA
Tinabuay streetdance tilt held
Seven contingents joined the Tinabu-ay 2007 street dance parade competition held in line with the fiesta of Murcia , in Negros Occidental, Saturday, a press release from the town said.
This year's champion was the Negros Occidental High School-Murcia Extension, which also won the Best in Costume and Props. At second and third places were the Lopez Jaena National High School-Minoyan Extension and Alegria National High School , respectively.
Other contingents were the Barangay Abu-Abo, Cansilayan National High School , La Consolacion Academy-Murcia, and Lopez Jaena National High School-Main.
The dance parade was on the theme “tabu” or the market for trade or barter, the press release said.
Rudy Reveche chaired the board of judges with Ismael Java, Jean Vale, Victoria Fontanilla and Christom Calanza as members.
Nonoy Leonida of Murcia and municipal accountant Arlene Espiso facilitated the dance parade. Mayor Esteban Coscolluela gave the awards to the winners, the press release added.*

Cadiz wins solid

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in cooperation with the National Solid Waste Management Commission through Executive Director Zoilo Andin Jr. has awarded Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. for his exemplary, outstanding and creative Solid Waste Management Enforcement through the “Kantahan sa Kalinisan” program.
The “Kantahan sa Kalinisan” is a waste management advocacy campaign launched in the city by the Advocacy Team, Market Operations Division and PNP led by Chief Insp. Jefferson Descallar last March to July 2007, a press release from Cadiz said.
Contestants brought 20 kilos of waste/garbage every week as one of the criteria which is 50 percent waste collection and 50 percent actual performance.
The award was given during the recent Second Waste Management Summit in Western Visayas held at Punta Villa Training Center Sto. Nino Sur, Arevalo, Iloilo City , the press release added.*
