BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The four policemen who successfully defended a police outpost in Brgy. San Jose , Sipalay City , from the New People's Army attack, despite heavily outnumbered and outgunned in December 2006, are expected to receive a meritorious promotion for their gallantry.

The policemen are Police Officers 1 Joselito Bandiola, Abraham Jolingan, Raffy Billones and Julysses Catalogo.

Members of the PNP Meritorious Promotion Board led by Chief Supt. Sukarno Ikbala, accompanied by Supt. Flomar Natuel, went to Sipalay on Friday, to interview the four policemen and city police chief Supt. Jomil John Trio.

Police Director Geary Barias, then Western Visayas police chief, has recommended the giving of awards and medals to them, in recognition of the gallantry they displayed during the attack of the San Jose police outpost in Sipalay City in Dec. 12, 2006.

Trio was recently promoted to police superintendent.

Police records showed that about 30 New People's Army rebels attacked the San Jose police outpost, that was manned only by four Sipalay policemen who had only two pistols and two assault rifles among them.

The rebel attackers withdrew after 30 minutes of firefight when they failed to overrun the police outpost.*GPB
