| The Dumaguete Portal featuring the different universities and colleges in the city through a website was launched recently at Bethel Guest House, recently by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Consortium of Higher Education in Negros Oriental.
The concept of the web page, www.dumagueteunitown.com, is presenting Dumaguete as a university town.
Regional Director of DTI Asteria Caberte was the guest speaker at the launching, which was done through the signing of memorandum of agreement among stakeholders.
It was witnessed by Provincial Board Member Mariant Escaño-Villegas, Mayor Agustin Perdices, Councilor Manuel Sagarbarria who represents the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Negros Oriental, and Supt. Dionardo Carlos, police chief of Dumaguete.
Presidents and representatives of the universities and colleges present were Constancio Sia of ACSAT, Rolando Rosales – AMACC, Dr. Mira Sinco - Foundation University, Dr. Gerardo Maxino - Maxino College, Delma Manila - Metro Dumaguete College, Capt. Edith Vera - Negros Maritime College, Dr. Henry Sojor - NORSU, Sr. Nilda Masirag - Saint Paul University, Dr. Ben Malayang III - Silliman University, Fr. Enrique Balongag - Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, and Jerrick Cabarubbias - STI.
Dr. Henry Sojor, CHEINO and Negros Oriental State University president, said the Dumaguete portal offers a one-stop shop for visitors, businessmen and tourist who want to come to Dumaguete .
Villegas said it will compliment the webpage of the provincial government www.negor.gov.ph.
Caberte said the webpage is the first of its kind in the country, adding that she is planning to present the Dumaguete portal on the national congress of DTI in Manila next year.*MA
