| The World Bank revealed its 2008 agriculture development plan for the Philippines at a video conference held Friday at Silliman University Computer Center , in Dumaguete City .
The conference was also conducted simultaneously in the cities of Davao , Manila and Baguio , and spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture, National Economic and Development Authority and the World Bank.
Silliman University is the only institution in the Visayas and Mindanao which is accredited by the Knowledge Center of the World Bank.
In Dumaguete, the conference was participated in by representatives from the Provincial Agriculture Office, private sector and the academe.
The “2008 World Bank Development Report: Agriculture for Development” tackled the different major issues for the development of agriculture in the country.
It underscored the continuing indispensability of the agriculture sector for rapid and inclusive growth that must be addressed.
It also appeals to developing countries to make smarter and greater investments in agriculture in order to realize their full development potential.
The project is in line with the target Millennium Development Goals of the Republic of the Philippines for decreasing by half extreme poverty and hunger by 2015.*RG
