West Negros
holds parade of lights

West Negros College officials, teachers and students carrying colorful and glowing Christmas lanterns marched last night along major thoroughfares of Bacolod City to commence the Christmas celebration.

Physical education students, high school students, middle managers, faculty and staff converged in front of the Bacolod public plaza and marched along San Juan, Gonzaga, Gatuslao, Rizal-Lacson, Burgos, Lopez Jaena and Malaspina streets at about 6 p.m. yesterday.

The participants later gathered at the WNC football field where a competition for most decorated, most colorful, best-lit and most symbolic lanterns was held.

The “Parade of Lights”, is the Wesnecan way of celebrating the Christmas season.

Lilybeth Eslabon, WNC P.E. Department director, said it started in 1995 and has become the school's annual activity.

Dr. Salvador Sigaya, WNC Vice President for Administration, commended the students for participating in the activity.

Filipino-Australian Chloe Xuereb, 18, said she was really impressed with the creativity of the students.

Xuereb, a university student, was having a vacation in Bacolod City and was invited by a relative to witness the activity.*DMG
