Bridging program scholars
, parents attend orientation

The fourth batch of CHED Bridging Program scholars and parents attended an orientation and MOA signing at VMA Global College in Bacolod City , recently, a press release from the school said.

A total of 23 Mechanical Engineering graduates took up Marine Engineering through the CBP of VMA Global College and Training Center in Bacolod , the press release said.

The sponsoring company of the fourth batch of CBP is the “K” Line Maritime Training Corporation and its manning agencies are the Veritas Maritime Corp., Ventis Maritime Corp. and New Filipino Maritime Services, the press release added.

The accreditation of CHED qualifies VMA-GC to offer the CBP under the scholarship program of the shipping companies.

The trainees study at VMA-GC for five months and join their respective sponsoring shipping firms after graduation, the press release also said.*

Forum on child labor today

A forum on child labor in agrarian reform areas in Negros Occidental will be held today at the St. Vincent 's Home, Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City , a press release from the Dagyaw-ARB Action Center said.

The event is aimed at educating stakeholders about the pressing social issues concerning agrarian reform beneficiaries, especially on child labor.

Fr. Anecito Buenafe, director of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Bacolod, and representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Labor and Employment will give messages, the press release said.

The forum, held in cooperation with the University of St. La Salle Political Science Society Club, will be highlighted by the signing of manifesto among the stakeholders, the press release added.*

City mall to launch
waste market fair

A waste market fair to promote recycling and proper waste management will be launched today at SM City in Bacolod , a press release from event organizer said.

Customers who want to dispose of scrap paper and cardboard, empty ink and toner cartridge, plastic bottles and plastic scraps, and other recyclable materials may participate in the “Waste Market Day” today, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Transport Terminal of the mall.

The same activity was simultaneously launched in various SM malls nationwide in June.

Through it, customers can transact business with recycling companies and exchange recyclable items for cash, the press release said.

Event organizers said waste disposal is one of the Philippines ' major environmental problems, attributable to the rapid growth of the population and lack of disposal sites.

It is also in support of Republic Act 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act, the press release added.*

Exhibits slated

The Art Association of Bacolod will hold a group exhibit titled “Mag-iloy” at Moravia Gallery/Bar, Atop, Italia, beside Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City from Dec. 10, 2007 to Jan. 8, 2008, a press release from organizers said.

Bacolod artist Harvey Salhay will also hold a one-man exhibit entitled “Forma De Kolores” from December 9-15, 2007 at L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod .
