discussed at confab

About a hundred Filipino overseas workers attended the 1st Overseas Filipino Congress conducted by the Overseas Filipino Council International, in cooperation with the Negros Oriental government, Thursday and Friday, at the Negros Oriental Convention Center , Dumaguete City .

The council seeks to establish strategic alliances with Filipino groups and individuals worldwide, in an effort to build movements to help address the welfare and well-being of migrant workers and create mass employment in the Philippines .

Chairman of the Council in Bremerton , Washington , USA , Dindo Generoso, said the two-day congress was designed to harness the huge overseas Filipinos resources and expertise and help the country build an industrial base and market the agricultural products.

2 get life terms for illegal drugs

Two persons were meted life imprisonments and ordered to pay a fine of P400,000 to P500,000 for drug charges yesterday by the Regional Trial Court Judge Rafael Crecensio Tan Jr., in Barangay Piapi, Dumaguete City

The court found Manny Misamis guilty beyond reasonable doubt for illegal possession of 16.71 grams shabu and illegal possession of equipment, instrument, apparatus and other paraphernalia for dangerous drugs.

Such acts violate sections 11 and 12, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the court said.

Capitol sets
Christmas animation

The Negros Oriental government will launch the Christmas Capitol Animation on December 16 at the Provincial Capitol Building, in Dumaguete City.

The event is a revival of the Christmas displays of the Capitol, and will focus on the birth of Jesus Christ, Gov. Emilio Macias II said yesterday.

It will be built with funds from various projects of the province, and some materials in last year's presentation will be used, he said.
