Gov't designates
area for sale
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Bacolod City government has designated a new area for the retail sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics in the city, Secretary to the Mayor Goldwyn Nifras said yesterday.

Nifras said the area is along Palanca Drive at the reclamation area, behind the SM North Wing.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia has issued a memorandum directing Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda to coordinate with interested businesses for the retail sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics, as well as, with the police, the Bureau of Fire and City Legal Office to ensure proper implementation and regulation of City Ordinance No. 186 Series of 1997 and Executive Order No. 21.

The Mayor also directed Pineda, Marketing Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force chief, to coordinate with the Permits and Licensing Division to ensure that all corresponding permits and licenses are duly applied for and paid.

As defined in the ordinance, Nifras said retail sale of pyrotechnics must be less than P2,000 per transaction. He said sale of these items outside the designated area is a violation of the ordinance and penalties to be imposed have also been prescribed.*CGS
