Monico welcomes
European trip probe
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Rep. Monico Puentevella ( Bacolod ) yesterday said he would gladly welcome a House inquiry into the number of solons who joined President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on her trip to Europe so the whole country may appreciate what “some of us are doing on trips like this.”

Representatives Teodoro Casiño, Crispin Beltran and Liza Maza on Tuesday filed a resolution in the House seeking an inquiry into why an unusually large delegation of at least 30 solons had joined the president's trip to France , Spain and England , which they called an “extravagant junket”.

Puentevella, in a text message to the DAILY STAR from Europe, said he will not preempt the president, but said “there are some projects here that will greatly benefit the country and two of them will be in Bacolod ”.

“Two of my priority projects may be realized on this trip that is why I sometimes accept going on these trips,” he said.

After the president has announced her report on the trip, Puentevella said he will come out with details as chairman of the House Transportation Committee.

“If they in the opposition have nothing to do, then let's do it,” he said.*CPG
