Vietnam mauled the Philippines , 10-0, yesterday in the Southeast Asian Games women's football tournament at the Tumbon Mueangpug Stadium yesterday.

The loss leaves the Filipino booters praying for Laos to lose by more than 10 goals when they meet Vietnam tomorrow to advance to the semifinals.

The Philippines and Laos played to a 2-2 draw Monday.

Meanwhile, the SEA Games formally open today with judoka John Baylon, who hails from Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, leading the RP delegation during the welcome parade as flag-bearer.

Baylon is seeking an eighth straight SEA Games gold in judo.

Majority of the medal-rich events like athletics and boxing are scheduled to start Friday.

There are nine members of the men and women's boxing team who have roots in Negros Occidental. They are led by 2005 SEA Games women's boxing gold medalist Mitchel Martinez of Bacolod City .

In the men's team are Godfrey Castro of Cadiz City, Junel Cantancio, Junie Tizon, Joegin Ladon, Bill Vicera and Larry Semillano of Bago City, Albert Pabila of Bacolod City. Featherweight Orlando Tacuyan Jr.'s father is also from Bacolod City .

In the athletics contingent are Sheena Atilano of La Carlota City, Arniel Ferrera of Cauayan, Rosie Villarito, Loralie Amahit and Jerro Perater of Binalbagan, Arnold Villarube of Escalante, Julius Sermona of Himamaylan and Joebert Delicano of Victorias City. *CPT
