The First Gov. Joseph G. Marañon Cup, an Inter-LGU/Club Amateur Boxing Tournament of the Provincial Government in collaboration with the Negros Amateur Boxing Association (NABA) and ABS-CBN Bacolod is set to conduct championship bouts on Saturday, December 8 at the Public Plaza of the Municipality of Murcia , the host town of the activity.

The grassroots boxing program, implemented by the Office of the Governor's Sports Development Program Division together with NABA under its president Juan Ramon “Monju” Guanzon, and supported by ABS-CBN Bacolod under Manager Leilani S. Alba, hopes to reposition Negros Occidental as the leader in the sport that has produced several Negrense champions.

Seeing action in the first bout are Brgy. Sum-ag's Eljean Hermedalia vs. Brgy. Pahanocoy's Roland Servania both of Bacolod City in the 26kgs category and this is to be followed by Escalante City 's Rodel Agupasa vs. La Carlota City's Junder Gregorio in the 28kgs category for the second bout.

Joren Labordo of Brgy. Pahanocoy vs. Rene Igmedio of La Castellana will compete in the third bout under the 30kgs category. While Charlie Palacios of Escalante City vs. Mac-Mac Bautista of Binalbagan will compete in the fourth bout under the 32kgs category.

Cadiz City 's Eric Hulleza vs. Yan-Yan Bautista of Binalbagan will see action in the fifth bout under the 34kgs category; James Mahinay of Escalante City vs. La Castellana's Jonel Alfir will compete in the sixth bout under the 36kgs category.

The seventh bout will be played by Brgy. Granada 's Rafael Sueño vs. Brgy. Pahanocoy's Raymund Orcada under the 38kgs category. Bout number eight under the 40kgs category will be played by Escalante City 's Melvin Gumban vs. Ronel Parcon of Brgy. Pahanocoy.

Brgy. Pahanocoy's Remus Orcada vs. Brgy. Sum-ag's Mike Carlo Españoza will see action under the 42kgs category of bout number nine.

In the 45kgs category of the 10 th bout, Brgy Pahanocoy's Remus Orcada will compete with whoever wins between Talisay City 's Romnick Malan vs. La Castellana's Glen Tupas during the remaining semi-final bouts. While the 11 th bout will be played by La Castellana's Allan Magno vs. Brgy. Pahanocoy's Jake Servania under the 48kgs category.

Similarly, in the 12 th bout under the 51kgs category, Cadiz City 's Eric dela Cruz will compete with whoever prevails between Genesis Magno of La Castellana vs. Buth Landero of Brgy. Alijis in the last semi-final bouts which will be played before the championship stretch.*/CAPITOL NEWS
