The 661 Sangguniang Kabataan chairmen throughout Negros Occidental will gather today to vote for their representatives to the 13 city and 19 town councils of the province, Local Governments Provincial Officer Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag said yesterday.

DILG provisions prohibit interference of local officials in the SK polls, she said.

The Board of Election Supervisors will be chaired by the DILG field officer, with the COMELEC registrar and Sanggunian secretary as members in the various towns and cities where the polls are held, she said.

BREDCO to sue if
city takes over port

The Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. will file a case in Court if the proposed “takeover ordinance” is passed by the Bacolod Sanggunian on final reading and becomes a law, its lawyer said yesterday.

The proposed ordinance laying down basic policies, guidelines, rules and procedures for the protection of the rights of ownership by the city over the port and port operations at the reclamation area in Bacolod City was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on second reading last week.

Rosellier Maalat, legal counsel of BREDCO, yesterday said they will ask the Court for the declaration of nullity of the ordinance with preliminary injunction and prayer for temporary restraining order. moremoremore

2 sentenced to
40 years for shabu sale

Two former bodyguards of a mayor of a town in Zamboanga del Sur, who claimed to be dried fish vendors, were sentenced yesterday to 40 years imprisonment for the sale of shabu in Kabankalan City three years ago.

Kabankalan Regional Trial Court Judge Henry Arles sentenced Mario Arangcana and Aldin Acson to suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua and to pay a fine of P500,000 each.

The two were arrested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agents for the sale of 3.88 grams of shabu in a buy bust operation in Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City , on July 27, 2004 , the judge said. moremoremore
