Property near airport
needed for Air Force

Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Marañon yesterday said he has discussed with Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano the need to acquire property near the Silay City airport for the Air Force.

Maj. Gen. Victor Ibrado, Armed Forces Central Command chief, has earlier said that the headquarters of the Tactical Operations Command 6 Philippine Air Force, which supervises the operations of military aircrafts in Western Visayas, will be transferred from the old domestic airport in Mandurriao, Iloilo , to the airport of international standard in Silay City .

“We are seeking the help of Mayor Montelibano to acquire property, adjacent to the new airport,” Marañon said.

The Air Force will be assisted by the Silay and provincial governments in acquiring the property, he said.

The transfer of the Air Force TOC 6 headquarters to the Silay airport, is also expected to boost the mobility and firepower of the 303 rd Infantry Brigade in the campaign against insurgents in Negros island, through its helicopter gunships.*
