The Philippine women's football team failed to get maximum points in its first match yesterday when it was held to a 2-2 draw by Laos at the Tumbon Muenapag Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Tipped to improve on its fourth-place finish, the Filipinas trailed 1-0 at the break before goals from Patricia Empilido and Edna Agravante in the 63 rd and 68 th minutes respectively looked to have set the Marlon Maro's wards on the way to victory.

But disaster struck as the nationals conceded a goal in the closing minutes as Laos, a newcomer in the women's football event in the SEAG, salvaged the draw.

The Filipinos now need to avoid a lopsided defeat at the hands of favorite Vietnam to stand a chance of making it to the medal round. The Vietnamese side is expected to sweep the Philippines and Laos in Group A in the eliminations.

The stalemate in women's football came on the same day the Philippines blew another golden opportunity for a gold in shooting.

The men's skeet team of Brian Rosario, Pablito Bernardo and Gabriel settled for the silver, after combining for 127 in the final 50 targets. The team tallied 334 birds, eight behind champion Thailand.

Rosario qualified for the individual final as the third-ranked shooter but succumbed to pressure in the medal play, winding up tied for fifth with 131.

The other silvers of the Philippines were courtesy of Jacqueline De Guzman in women's skeet shooting and the men's trap team of Jethro Dionisio, Carlos Carag and Eric Ang. *CPT
