| “I was not kidnapped,” Lyn Lyn Diaz, Sangguniang Kabataan chair of Barangay Libertad, Esclante, said yesterday.
"I have informed my parents that I am fine but I cannot understand why they are telling people that I was kidnapped," Diaz told DYEZ Aksyon Radyo.
"They said they are going to file charges for kidnapping but who will they charge because I was not kidnapped," she said, adding that she is hiding in the house of a friend.
Diaz told the DAILY STAR she is a diehard supporter of Irone Manguilimotan who is running for president of the Escalante SK Federation and did not want to support the candidate of the camp of Escalante Mayor Melecio Yap that is why she went into hiding.
On Thursday she was surprised when she saw the orange pickup of the Escalante Mayor's Office outside the Northern Negros State College in Sagay with City Administrator Rolando Ponsica of the Yap camp and her parents in it, Diaz said.
Fearing that she would be made to support the candidate of the Yap camp, Diaz said she decided to escape.
She had already committed to vote for Manguilimotan, the son of Councilor Rose Manguilimotan, but her parents “shifted allegiance" to the Yap group, Diaz said.
Her parents used to be with the camp of Vice Mayor Santiago Barcelona, she added.
April Ocdinaria, the daughter of former barangay captain Tony Ocdinaria, is running against Manguilimotan.
Diaz denied claims that Councilor Manguilimotan had her abducted, adding that it was she who decided to stay away until the SK Federation elections on Dec. 6.
Diaz said she spoke to her parents yesterday to assure them that she is all right.
“I believe that I and my parents can work this out," she said "but I can say that our relationship has been destroyed just because of politics."
Yap when reached for comment referred the DAILY STAR to Ponsica, who as of press time was out of reach.*CPG
