Sweet makes semis

Sweet Crystal Sugar won the war of attrition against JSY Transport, scoring a 117-113 overtime victory to advance to the semifinals of the Fil-Sino AACI Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City recently.

Regulation play ended at 105-all.

Ex-West Negros College standout Joel Deocadiz took over in overtime, picking up eight of his 28 points as Sweet stormed into the semifinals as the No. 3 seed with a 5-5 record. It was the end of the tournament for JSY, which finished its campaign with a 2-8 slate.

AACI Trading emerged as the top-ranked team with a 9-1 record, followed by Chemisolution (6-4), Sweet (5-5) and AACI Transport (4-6).

Johnnyson Yu also played solid for Sweet, finishing with 22 points, while Arnold Betita and Celhelm Uy added 19 and 14, respectively.

Also making their presence felt were Bingbong Villanueva and Charlton Ong, who combined for 19 points.

JSY, led by Julius Teruel's 25 points and Jan Jan Yang's 21, came back from seven points down in the final period, only to falter in overtime. *CPT
