The Green Philippines Program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
was launched in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, yesterday.
"No Leaf, No Life! New Leaf, New Life" is the slogan of the program that kicked
off at the La Mesa Watershed last month attended by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo,
a government press release said. In Negros Occidental, the launching program was
held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Don Salvador Benedicto.
DENR Assistant Secretary for Administrative and Legal Services Daniel Necir, with
Regional Executive Director Lormelyn Claudio and other Regional Technical Directors
attended the launching. A Memorandum of Understanding was
forged between DENR and its partners in support of the GPP for protection, monitoring
and maintenance of planted seedlings. A tree planting on
the 5-kilometer stretch of the Negros Translink Highway from Km. 55 to Km. 60,
followed after the ceremony. Pine trees were planted on both sides of the road.
The tree planting was participated by the personnel of the DENR in the province,
LGUs, NGOs, military and the different schools, among others. The Trees for Life
project seeks to plant 20 million seedlings from July to November this year.*

set Sunday Central
Negros Electric Cooperative will conduct eight-hour repair work from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. Sunday to effect line maintenance and clearing work, a press release from
the firm said. Affected area are AF3 Alijis Road (from Alijis
Substation to Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto), Brgy. Handumanan, Prk. Gaisano,
Celita Village, Negros Metal Corp., Cosmos Bottling, Hillside Subd., La Salle
Ville, Hermelinda Homes, Pedrosa Village, St. Vincent's Subd., Paglaum Village;
Manayaosayao-Gonzaga, Canlaon View Subd., Brgy. Mansilingan, Olympia Village,
Lolita Heights, Regent Pearl-Alijis and Panaad Site, the whole of Murcia and Don
Salvador Benedicto; and Brgy. Alegria, Brgy. Sta. Cruz, CPAC
(Central Philippine Adventist College); and AF7 New Coca-Cola Plant (Mansilingan).

faculty exhibit at SM City tomorrow
The 5th ARFIEN Faculty Show of works of the members of the faculty of the School
of Architecture, Fine Arts and Interior Design of La Consolaction College - Bacolod
will open tomorrow and will run until Aug. 31, at the north wing Event Centre
of SM City Bacolod. The exhibit led by Antonio Tejado will
be a showcase of artworks in oil, acrylic, photograph, pastel and steel.
The LCC faculty members are also active local artists in Bacolod who have presented
several art exhibits in the city promoting the Negrense skills and talents in
arts, the press release said. Meanwhile, an art exhibit called "Amats" by Puwersa
Pintura is now going on at the mall's Event Centre. The exhibit showcases artworks
of students of the School of Fine Arts of LCC - Bacolod, it said.
"Amats" is slang for effect, consequence or result. It features masterpieces of
the members of Puwersa Pintura, a new art organization in Bacolod City. It is
the first in the series of exhibitions dedicated to the National Celebration of
