PAO sets
agriculture programs
BY RENE GENOVE

The Provincial Agriculture's Office has drawn up plans and programs working the Barangay Agricultural Center, high value crops, banana culture and the Small Farm Reservoir, to sustain agricultural production in the province.

Oliver Lemence, provincial agriculture communications officer, said the province now has 90 BACs. The small farm reservoir was intended to help farmers in the production of agricultural products. Some of these have nearby fishponds with fruits and vegetables and other crops.

There are now 30 small farm reservoirs in the province, 20 of them are being constructed until December, Lemence said. The PAO allocated P500,000 for the reservoir. There are 40,000 hectares of land intended for the corn production in the province. It uses organic farming for agricultural production instead of using expensive fertilizers.

PAO has trained fishpond owners and people engaged in fish production on tilapia bio-intensive gardening. Lemence said the entire budget has reached P2 million with the assistance of technology transfer from the province.*RG
