CDO on VMC lifted,
mill set to retrench
BY
CARLA GOMEZ

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has temporarily lifted a cease-and-desist order imposed on Victorias Milling Co. for alleged pollution violations, that will allow VMC to start milling operations on schedule.

Milling for the new crop year starts on August 27 at VMC, its president, Abelardo Bugay, told the DAILY STAR yesterday. VMC, the largest sugar refinery in the country, produces about 6 million bags of refined sugar per annum, Sugar Regulatory Administrator James Ledesma said.

VMC is also scheduled to effect the retrenchment of some managerial and supervisory personnel effective August 31, Bugay added. moremoremore

A British national and his wife who had complained that P50,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from their bank account via computer banking, were paid the amount yesterday, but they are still considering the filing of charges.

Neil Honeyman and his wife, Ma. Josefina Abueg, had complained to Stephen Abao, manager of the Equitable-PCI Bank Hilado Branch in Bacolod City, on Aug. 18 that the P50,000 had been withdrawn via Fastnet, or computer banking.

"Since we do not have a Fastnet account, then the transaction was carried out by a third party," the Honeymans said. moremoremore

Maraņon said he talked to Vice Governor Isidro Zayco and the provincial government department heads about this plan.

Among the tasks he will delegate are the out-of-town trips and barangay visitations, he said. moremoremore
