Negrense sugar planter Enrique Rojas was elected anew as president of the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters during the NFSP's general membership assembly and election at the Casino Espaņol in Cebu City recently, a press release from NFSP said.

Rojas, whose nomination was unopposed, will again serve for the next three years as head of the first national federation of sugarcane planters association in the country formed in 1930.

He first became president in 2000, taking over after Bacolod Rep. Romeo Guanzon passed away.

Close to 50 delegates from NFSP-associated planters associations and cooperatives from sugar-producing provinces in the country attended the general meeting and election, the press release said. Other NFSP officers are: Leonides Fausto - vice president for Northern Luzon; Ruben Rodriguez - vice president for Southern Luzon; Jaime Golez, vice president for Western Visayas;

Iņaki Larrazabal Jr., vice president for Eastern Visayas; Roberto J. O. Montalvan, vice president for Mindanao; Augusto Araneta Jr., corporate secretary; Jose Mari Miranda, treasurer; and, Plaridel Villadelgado, executive director and legal counsel.Other members of the NFSP Board are Negros Occidental Gov. Joseph Maraņon; Enrique Montilla III; Edgardo Gargar; Eric Lacson, Remo Ramos; Victroria Dicdican; Jose Torres IV; and Paul Monfort.

NFSP said that it has always served as a vanguard in protecting the welfare and promoting the interests of sugar producers, the press release added.

Its recent program with the most impact on sugar producers was its Urea importation last December which allowed its members to benefit from the low Urea price of only P790 per bag, it also said.*
