Sweet mocks JSY; AACI
Transport prevails

Sweet Crystal Sugar sustained its momentum Wednesday night in a 92-88 win over JSY Transport Unitra in the Fil-Sino AACI Inter-Color Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Joel Deocadiz, a former West Negros College varsity player, scored 11 of his team's last 13 points to key the victory that spoiled Patrick Echarri's 29-point output.

Echarri mocked defenses thrown at him, hitting seven triples, the last coming of which cut the lead, 83-84, before Deocadiz sealed the outcome with a lay-up and two free throws.

It was Sweet's second win, after dropping its first three games in this six-team tournament. JSY took a 75-72, behind Echarri and Sukrahj Sekhon but Johnnyson Yu sparked a 6-0 run, allowing Sweet to gain the upperhand en route to the win. Deocadiz totaled 21 points, while Yu and Arnold Betita posted 17 and 14, respectively.

Julius Teruel contributed 15 points for JSY, which drew 11 points from Sekhon Sukhraj and 7 from import Ritche Militante, who played only in the fourth quarter.

JSY dropped to 1-4. In the second round's opening match, AACI Transport repeated over Basecom, 90-83 with its 1-2 punch of Bobby Yap and RB Chua spearheading the charge with 18 and 17 points.

Yap hit nine points on three treys to quell Basecom's siege in the final period.

With the win, AACI improved to 3-3, tying Basecom, which saw its three-game run snapped. Joshua Chua added 12 points for AACI, while Richard Verayo and Joe Giganto added 9 apiece. Basecom was led by Antonio Rogacion with 15 points, Deno Soriano with 13 and Omar Galunan and Daniel Chiu with 11 each.*CPT
