2 MATCHES SET IN LOPUE'S CUP

Silay opens its men's class B title defense against Migo today when the 8th Lopue's Cup USLS-NOVA Inter-club Volleyball Championships kick off at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

Gametime is set at 10:45 p.m., following the clash between Lopue's and Stingers' Club.

Women's B titlist Sabado Club gets going against USLS-Student Nurses' Association on Aug. 12.

Defending men's A champion Foundation University of Dumaguete City won't be seeing action until Sept. 7 when hostilities in the women's A tournament also get going. The FU spikers meet F La Salle, the reigning champion in the women's A event, will start its bid against Iloilo Doctor's College on Sept. 8.

Challenging FU for the men's A crown are USLS-A, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Iloilo Doctor's College and CHB. La Salle will also face tough opposition with Foundation and NOPSSCEA rival UNO-R also in the fold.

Aside from Silay and Migo, Victorias and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod high school are in group A of the men's B category, while Lopue's, Stinger's Club, PCE and CSA-B college team play in group B.

Other teams seeing action in the women's B are NCTV-Silay and San Agustin. Tournament manager Malot Lozada said the single round robin elimination will be adapted in the men and women's class A and the women's class B. The top two teams in the women's class A will play for the crown, while the squad with the best record in the men's class A will emerge champion.

The top four teams in the women's B event will advance to the page system finals. In the men's B event, teams in the same bracket play each other once with the top three squads from each bracket moving on to the modified page system finals, Lozada said. *CPT
