NPA hitmen kill brgy head
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Suspected New People's Army hitmen struck again yesterday killing another barangay captain in Brgy. Imelda, Guihulngan, Oriental Negros, the military said.

The fatality was identified as Imelda Brgy. Capt. Sebastian Tanoy, while Kagawad Avelino Denlauso sustained bruises. Both were very vocal against NPA atrocities in the town's upland barangays, Lt. Col. Jess Manangquil, 11th Infantry Battalion commander, said.

Tanoy Jr. and Denlauso were riding on a motorcycle to the town proper when they were waylaid by three unidentified young men who were armed with .45 caliber pistols in Sitio Lip-o, Brgy. Imelda, Guihulngan, Managquil said.

Peace pact eyed
to end gang wars

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Dumaguete City police force is drawing up measures to put a stop to gang wars that has alarmed parents and the community, Inspector Errol Garchitorena said.

He said they received feelers from members of the BLOODs and CRIPS groups about their desire to come up with a peace pact.

Garchitorena said members of the BLOODs are willing to settle the rift with counterparts of the CRIPS, and hoped the latter gang would do the same.

Guv backs natural park
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Oriental Negros government is interested in helping the ongoing wildlife conservation efforts at the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park, Gov. Emilio Macias II said yesterday.

Members of the Natural Park Management Board called on Macias recently and he told them he understands the role of the Protected Area Management Board on protected areas.

He, however, said local officials should be given more powers to manage the natural park, and besides, local residents know this better than people from other agencies.
