Escalante set to streamline
business permit processing

The Escalante City government is set to implement its streamlined business permits processing in January next year with assistance from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program.

DTI-Negros Occidental head Lea Gonzales and SMEDSEP regional coordinator Lorenzo Templonuevo recently met with Escalante Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. to discuss the implementation of the "Business Registration Streamlining Project" under his administration.

Yap committed support to the project to make Escalante an investment-friendly under his leadership. "This proposed new (way of processing business permits) will lighten the stakeholders' burden in their business endeavors, which would surely bring in more investors here, making Escalante a more productive place to do business," he said.

Inflation outlook stable
despite dry spell

MANILA - A dry spell wreaking havoc in the northern Philippines could hurt farm output but the inflation outlook remains favorable, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor Amando Tetangco said yesterday.

He said the BSP is keeping intact its inflation forecast of between 2.6 and 3.1 percent for this year, below the government's 4.0-5.0 percent target.

"We're keeping our inflation forecast for the whole year until we get an assessment that would require the review of the inflation forecast," Tetangco said.

DOTC starts consultations
on railway development

The Department of Transportation and Communications began its series of consultations on the proposed public-private partnership in the development of a railway system in the country in Iloilo City Thursday.

The consultations, which kicked off simultaneously in Iloilo and Cebu are in line with the planned establishment of a National Railway System being pursued by Secretary Leandro Mendoza, a government press release said.

The activity is aimed to spur interests of private sector as well as local government units to build and operate their own railway systems. In Iloilo, the participants were the members of the Regional Development Council, local government officials, business groups and other stakeholders.
