Leah Navarro to launch
COMPACT in Bacolod

The COMPACT for Peaceful Elections will be launched in Bacolod City today, a press release from organizers said.

Leading the launching is Leah Navarro, one of the group's national convenors who represents the Black and White Movement.

Along with local convenors from the different civil society organization in the city and in the province of Negros Occidental, Navarro will lead the formation of the provincial COMPACT network at a launching program which will be held at the Sylvia Manor at San Juan St., Bacolod City today, a press release from the group said. The group was organized in the 2004 elections to campaign and mobilize citizens to campaign against the use of violence and fraud to win elections, the press release said.

Among COMPACT's initiatives during this election period is the conduct of an International Observers' Mission. COMPACT Bacolod-Negros Occidental is headed by Pastor Emmanuel Alano of the Christ Central Church, Bacolod City, the press release added.*
