Defensor denies Team Unity
campaigning with gov't funds

Senatorial candidate Michael Defensor denied allegations that Team Unity is using government funds to finance the administration party's campaign.

Defensor, who was in Bacolod City Saturday to induct into office the new officers of the Negros Press Club, said that the allegations against the Team Unity are "simply not true."

With Defensor during the NPC affair was fellow candidate Cesar Montano and Gloria Angara, wife of another senatorial bet, Edgardo Angara.

Defensor said the campaign has depleted his personal resources, proof that his senatorial bid has cost him a lot financially.

However, Defensor said he does not know if local officials who accommodate them during sorties, charge some of the expenses to local funds.

He also clarified that the reported rift between him and fellow Team Unity candidate Chavit Singson is a simple case of "misunderstanding". "There is no rift between us…everything has been clarified and we are still friends," Defensor said.

Meanwhile, he expressed his hopes that Negros Occidental will support the entire ticket of Team Unity.

Defensor said he is confident that the province will given him a big number of votes since his father, Matias, is an Ilonggo.*NB

Meanwhile, Defensor also said that if given a chance to serve in the Senate he will give housing project priority being the former Presidential Adviser on Housing.

Defensor said he believes the government has to allocate funds to help the people acquire decent relocation areas.

He noted that there are already relocation sites established in the Cities of Bacolod and Talisay. He said when he was chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council from 2001-2004, the Bacolod Housing Authority was already very active.

He said the project includes the military, the police and the Ombudsman. However, the police complained that if they had the media as their neighbors they might have problems later on keeping confidential information, he said.

Defensor also said that to avoid being criticized, he thought of putting up a housing project for all government employees - police, soldiers and teachers, among others.*CGS
