Seven persons were arrested by officers of the Commission on Elections
and the Police Station 3 led by Bacolod City Comelec registrar Mavil
Majarucon for illegally posting campaign materials of senatorial
candidate Joker Arroyo at about 11 a.m. Saturday.
Jerry Castello, 32, Gerard, Galves, 31, Terence Matavia, 22,
Roger Torrebello, 23, Stelmar Geocadin, 21, Arnold Magbanua, 42,
and Roger Javier, 37, were nabbed while installing Arroyo's posters
along the national highway in Brgy. Bata, Bacolod City, police reports
said. The Comelec and the police recovered bundles of Arroyo's posters
along with those of the Batas party list from the suspects.
The officials also confiscated two hammers, two improvised
ladders, assorted nails, wires, and a pair of pliers from the suspects,
police records showed.
Majarucon said they will file the charges against the seven
suspects for violation of Comelec Resolution number 7767 which is
an election offense.
The suspects refused to answer questions from the DAILY STAR.
On the other hand, Police Senior Inspector Leonardo Borromeo
of the Police Station 3 said they have recovered motorcycle parts
from the house of Bryan Melicoton at Purok Langis, Brgy. Bata, Bacolod
City at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
He said they raided the suspect's house after a tip from
an informant and because of the increasing cases of cellphone snatching
and car napping in the area. Melicoton was not in his house
during the raid, Borromeo said. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Decolongon, 30,
was apprehended by Police Station 2 officers after he allegedly
tried to enter a cafeteria at the compound of the Boy Scouts of
the Philippines at 3rd Lacson St., Bacolod City at about 8:30 p.m.
Saturday.
Marina Dayanan, owner of the cafeteria, told the police that
Decolongon was forcing open the window of the eatery when he was
arrested by Winniefredo Inlao, the security guard of the compound.
Decolongon however, said that he just tried to open the window
to hide from his assailants who were running after him before the
incident.*PP
