New Pasalamat Queen crowned

Maria Victoria Libo-on, was crowned Pasalamat Queen 2007 in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental at a star-studded pageant night Saturday, a press release from the city said.

Liboon, who was among the 18 candidates who joined this year's pageant, was crowned by Mayor Jeffrey Ferrer and wife, Juliet. Argean Pahayahay and Aprilyn Gustilo were first and second runners-up, respectively. Payahayahay was also named Miss Bobson wear, while Gustilo was best in festival costume, and best in evening gown.

Among the guests were showbiz personalities Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Sam Milby, Sarah Geronimo, Mitch Dulce, Richie Macapagal, senatorial candidate and actor Richard Gomez, candidates for the Senate Chiz Escudero of the Genuine Opposition, and Mike Defensor of Team Unity,

Also present were Gretchen Cojuangco, Aida Maraņon, first lady of the province, and Julie Benedicto, the press release said.

Meanwhile, a special Designer's Award was given to Pasalamat candidate Geraldine Padasas, with Cipriano Montalvo as designer.

Mary Grace Delfin was named Miss Friendship, and Michelle Talapiero was Miss Photogenic and Best in Swimsuit.

Rachel Velasco was Miss Negros Navigation Princess, and Ellean Charise Javellana was best in talent, the press release added.*

Defensor inducts NPC officers

Senatorial candidate Mike Defensor urged the Bacolod media to be responsible and make sure that they do balanced reporting in their advocacy to put out the truth.

"We know how powerful the media is but we also know it could destroy," Defensor, who was guest speaker and inducting officer during the 71st Induction ceremony of the Negros Press Club Saturday at Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City, said.

He said the media plays a very critical role in informing the people and the different stakeholders in the country of what is happening in Negros and the different places in the country particularly the Panay region.

The NPC is headed by Angelino "Jun" Jolita who took over the post from past president Amado Villacarlos.

Other officers are Cyrus Garde - vice president, Edgar Cadagat - secretary, Henceboy Cestina - treasurer, Renato "Boy" Duran - auditor, and the directors are Loreto Lapuos, Anthony Visitacion, Ferdinand "Bambi" Yngson, Jose Lizael "Nonoy" Lampinez and Aquilino "Boy" Ciocon.*CGS
