Comelec urges vigilance
in securing poll materials
BY RENE GENOVE & MARICAR ARANAS

Provincial Election Supervisor Manuel Advincula yesterday urged the community to be vigilant in securing election materials in Negros Oriental.

Advincula said important election materials like official ballots, election returns, certificates of canvass and statements of votes will soon be arriving at municipal and city treasurers' offices.

He said these materials are very important and could be the target of people who want to cheat and mock the sanctity of the electoral process.

The provincial COMELEC recently received a memorandum from its central office stating that official copies of the election returns should be posted on the wall of the polling places for two days. The purpose for the posting is for the public to see the election results in their respective poling places.

Recommendations on
disqualification cases set

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Commission on Elections in Negros Oriental will submit Monday its recommendations to the poll body in Manila on the nine disqualification cases filed by local candidates against their rivals.

Provincial Election Supervisor Manuel Advincula said the preliminary hearing of the last disqualification case was completed Friday.

Advincula said the Comelec Central Office will decide on the cases after reviewing his recommendations that are based on documents submitted by the complainants and respondents.

We'll make 1st district
economic hub, bets say

If their promises are to be believed, candidates seeking public office now are out to turn the 1st Congressional District into the next economic and tourism hub in the province.

During the Diocesan Electoral Board candidates forum held in Guihulngan, Gubernatorial candidate Sammy Torres said he wants to construct a bridge from Guihulngan to Tangil in Cebu, congressional candidate (independent) Danilo Roble is batting for the abolition of the pork barrel and for representatives of the people to concentrate on legislating laws.

On the other hand, congressional candidates Jerome Paras wants to construct more farm-to-market roads, and more delivery of basic services.
