If their promises are to be believed, candidates seeking public
office now are out to turn the 1st Congressional District into the
next economic and tourism hub in the province.
During the Diocesan Electoral Board candidates forum held in
Guihulngan, Gubernatorial candidate Sammy Torres said he wants to
construct a bridge from Guihulngan to Tangil in Cebu, congressional
candidate (independent) Danilo Roble is batting for the abolition
of the pork barrel and for representatives of the people to concentrate
on legislating laws.
On the other hand, congressional candidates Jerome Paras wants
to construct more farm-to-market roads, and more delivery of basic
services.
For her part, 1st Congressional District candidate Jocelyn
Limkaichong wants to make a change in the district. She is batting
for a new breed of politicians. Health, education, livelihood and
cooperatives are the centerpiece of her platform of government.
Limkaichong said she strongly believes in openness, transparency
and accountability because this is the way to give the people a
chance to give back their trust to those in public service.
Being raised in a family of businessmen, Limkaichong said she
has no intention of doing anything that will destroy the name that
have been so well respected and loved by the people in the business
circle and by those whose lives they have touched.
An independent candidate for Governor Sammy Torres is planning
to connect Negros Oriental and Cebu and Mindanao by building bridges.
Torres emphasized making the islands closer through bridges.
Although people do not take his platform seriously he said
he strongly believes that nothing is impossible in realizing those
plans.
Among the candidates Torres is one of who never fails to attend
the candidates forum and was always on time.
In the first District he also plans to build another bridge that
will connect Guihulngan, Negros Oriental to Tangil, Cebu and another
one from Tampi,San Jose to Bato, Cebu. He said his plan is in line
with the Strong Republic Nautical Highway program of the President.*JG/MA
