The Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office is joining a nationwide
campaign on May 2 in an attempt at the first Guinness World Record
at simultaneous breastfeeding at multiple sites, Dr. Luisa Efren
said yesterday.
Efren, Negros Occidental provincial health officer, said the
May 2 activity is dubbed "Sabay-sabay, Sumuso sa Nanay." The activity
organized by the Children for Breastfeeding will have Department
of Social Welfare and Development day care centers, churches and
hospitals as official sites for the activity.
Government, non-government organizations and private individuals
are being urged to participate in the activity, Dr. Elvira Henares-Esguerra,
director of the Children for Breastfeeding, said.
"Our goal is to institutionalize simultaneous breastfeeding
as an annual form of national prayer of thanksgiving for motherhood
and breastfeeding. During the event, we shall pray as a nation for
a safe and peaceful world for our children that they will grown
up believing in God's infinite wisdom and generosity," she said.
The act of breastfeeding in front of our day care enrollees will
inculcate in their young minds that breastfeeding is the norm in
nourishing our children, Esguerra said.*CPG
