Dumaguete Mayor Agustin Perdices said he is certain that the multi-million
peso port terminal project in the city will push through because
of the bidding conducted last month.
"There is already a winning bidder from Manila. It's now a
matter of awarding the project," Perdices told the DAILY STAR.
He said, though, that the project will be started in the middle
of June because of the ban on government projects due to the May
14 elections. Perdices clarified that the project will only cost
more than P40 million, not P80 million as earlier projected, adding
that this was reduced because of the change in the features of the
building.
In the original plan drafted for free by architects from the
city, the project cost was more than P100 million, and was revised
to cost P80 million.
But the Philippine Ports Authority slashed the amount to only
more than P40 million, thus, instead of putting a complete second
floor as originally designed, it will be some kind of a mezzanine.
"I think there will be no hitches anymore to the project,"
Perdices said.*RA
