6 passengers injured
as bus falls on its side

Six passengers of a Ceres Liner passenger bus suffered minor injuries in a vehicular accident Saturday along the highway of Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.

Police Officer 2 Ricardo Pasquin, Hinigaran police traffic investigator, yesterday said the bus driven by Tito Patoc and bound for Bacolod, fell on its left side, in front of the Hinigaran National High School School, after its steering wheel locked.

Pasquin said the injured passengers were treated for their minor injuries and scratches and immediately went home after.

Meanwhile, a police team led by PO3 Julieto Oebanda arrested Rainier Villarico,18, who allegedly molested a 6-year-old girl in Brgy. Tabao. Valladolid on Friday.

The victim was accompanied by her mother in reporting her ordeal to the Valladolid Police Station, which later led to the arrest of the suspect who is now locked up in jail.*GPB

Barias promoted
to Police Director

Chief Supt. Geary Barias has been promoted to Police Director, a rank equivalent to that of major general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Barias, who is occupying four positions in the Philippine National Police is serving as chief of the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, Anti-Illegal Drugs and Gambling Special Operations Task Forces, as well as of Task Force USIG.

Barias yesterday said he took his oath before PNP chief Oscar Calderon last Wednesday at Camp Crame. His promotion was approved by President Gloria Arroyo on March 27.

After more than two years stint as provincial police director of Negros Occidental from 1999 to 2002, Barias became the chief of the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office and later as director of the Headquarters and Headquarter Service Group at Camp Crame.

Police records show that Barias also served as the regional police director of Caraga and Western Visayas regions until he was transferred to Camp Crame in Jan. 2. Barias belongs to Philippine Military Academy Class '75.*GPB
