We're not nuisance
bets, Comelec told

Two candidates facing petitions for disqualification yesterday told Negros Occidental provincial elections supervisor Jessie Suarez they are not nuisance candidates and have every right to run for office.

Himamaylan mayoralty candidate Alice Gatuslao (Independent) and Cauayan vice mayoralty bet Willymer Perez (Independent) appeared before Suarez at the provincial COMELEC office in Bacolod yesterday to air their sides.

Alain Gatuslao, who is also running for mayor of Himamaylan , is seeking the disqualification of his cousin, Alice.

Vice mayoral candidate Precy Perez (Liberal Party), an engineer who is running for vice mayor of Cauayan, is also seeking the disqualification of Willymer Perez, a trisikad driver. The contending parties have been asked to submit their position papers in seven days before he forwards their cases to the COMELEC Legal Department for action, Suarez said.

Meanwhile, Suarez has summoned Toboso Mayor Evello Valencia (NPC) and Pulupandan mayoralty candidate Crisanto Mondia to the COMELEC on April 16 to also air their stands after petitions for their disqualification were also filed.

Mayoralty candidate Albino de la Cruz (Lakas NUCD) is seeking the disqualification of his opponent, Valencia, for allegedly being an American citizen.

Valencia, on the other hand, insists he has renounced his US citizenship before a judge.

In Pulupandan, mayoralty candidate Samson Mondia (KAMPI) is seeking the disqualification of Crisanto Mondia, a former barangay captain.*CPG
