Undefeated Mexican fighter Jorge Solis yesterday vowed to give
Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao the fight of his life.
"Manny's winning streak over my countrymen will end Saturday
night," the Mexican, whose immaculate 30-0-2 record with 23 knockouts
doesn't seem to impress the Filipino champ, predicted during the
final pre-fight press conference at the Alamodome in San Antonio,
Texas. "I came to San Antonio to win. I am taking home all of the
marbles. I hold the pride of Mexico in my two fists," Solis continued.
"Be ready Manny, no excuses".
Pacquiao, who has won his past three fights, including
two smashing knockout victories over Mexican Eric Morales, and his
camp, however, remain undaunted. "I know my opponent Jorge Solis
has worked hard and is determined to win. But there can only be
one winner and I have every intention of leaving the ring the way
I came in -- as champion," the General Santos City native, who has
a 40-3-2 record spiked with 33 knockouts, said.
Pacquiao's Australian trainer, Justine Fortune, said they never
underestimate an opponent but declared that a physically fit and
strong Pacquiao is "impossible to beat".
Then Fortune told Solis: "You can call this fight Mission Impossible."
Fernando Beltran, Solis' promoter believes his ward will
shock the Philippines and the world. "Mexico will be very proud
of its champion on Saturday night," the promoter added. Meanwhile,
Fil-American Brian Viloria has also pledged to reclaim his world
crown when he battles Edgar Sosa for the vacant WBC lightflyweight
crown.
"I am going to take back what is rightfully mine - the world
title," the boxer known as "The Hawaiian Punch" said. Viloria
holds a record of 19-1-1 with 12 Kos, while Sosa sports a 26-5 slate
with 14 Kos. *CPT
