Mini-theater, school
building inaugurated

Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr. (Neg. Occ., 5th district) led the recent inauguration of a mini-theater and a school building in La Castellana town in line with his program to provide the infrastructure to enhance the education needs of students, a press release from his office said.

The mini-theater with an allocation of P300,000 was constructed at the Cabacungan Elementary School while the one-classroom school building was built at the La Castellana National High School.

Luna Grace Malabog, principal of CES, said the mini theater has long been a dream of the pupils especially during school activities with them holding it at the open field, the press release said. She thanked Arroyo for the mini-theater that was inaugurated after the graduation, the press release added.*

Bacolod City College
accepts scholarships

The city's only public college, the Bacolod City College, has announced the various scholarships that it honors.

These are BCC Scholarships (BCC Chorale, BCC Working Scholars), City Mayor's Educational Scholarship Program, BACPAT, Barangay 2 Scholarship Program, Barangay Villamonte Scholarship Program, Congressional District Scholarship Program (Lone District of Bacolod), 4th Congressional District Scholarship - Negros and many others, a Bacolod City Hall press release said.

Courses offered at BCC are Teacher Education Program (Bachelor in Elementary Education, Bachelor in Secondary Education), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration and 2-year Computer Secretarial Course.

Requirements for those planning to take up Teacher Education admission are High School card with average 85 and above or its equivalent, 4th year high school grade of 85 in Math, Science and English, an average passing mark of teaching achievement entrance examination and an average passing mark resulting from the interview. Schedules of Entrance Examinations are: Teacher Education Program - April 19 and May 3, 2007; for Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and BS Industrial Technology - March 30, April 20 and May 4, 2007; Bachelor of Science in Office Administration and Computer Secretarial March 29, April 19 and May 3, 2007. BCC schedule for enrollment is May 21 to 25, 2007 for the First Year, and May 28 to June 8, 2007 for 2nd year up to the higher years. The BCC was established to provide quality education to deserving students of Bacolod City through subsidized tuition fees, the press release added.*

Playground facilities installed

The British Embassy-Manila funded the installation of playground facilities in different haciendas and schools in Silay City and E.B Magalona town, in Negros Occidental.

This was initiated by SIMAG Foundation Inc. as part of the Children's Rights Project with the British Embassy, a SIMAG press release said. A Letter of Agreement among the foundation, the barangay councils and land owner was signed, and a committee formed to maintain the facilities.

A total of 17 playground facilities have already been installed by the group, the press release added.*
