candidates warned
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Brig. Gen. Gregorio Fajardo, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, yesterday warned candidates who are keeping ties with terrorist dissidents in pursuing their political ambitions.

Fajardo made the statement when told about possible alliance between local candidates and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army, in accommodating party list groups being used as front organizations of the underground movement in exchange for needed votes.

Fajardo said these candidates may be charged with treason, and the Army will intensify its internal security operations in Negros island. Fajardo said he noted a 20 percent decline in the NPA strength and in NPA atrocities since January this year.

Meanwhile, gubernatorial candidate Emilio Macias said he will raise the level in the quality of life of Negrenses.

The last-termer congressman of the 2nd District said this can be achieved through health, food security, environment protection, and livelihood for the people, among others.

Aside from these basic requirements, Macias said he also intends to look into the noble projects started by Gov. George Arnaiz. One of the first executive orders Macias said he is considering would be to form a board to study these programs and find out how to preserve or continue them, including the Buglasan Festival of Festivals.*JG
