More than 160,000 pages of 8,170 issues for 25 years from a team
of professional writers and seasoned columnists who are guided by
the principles of accuracy, objectivity, fair play, balance and
editorial integrity and independence. This is your DAILY STAR, whose
staff members - both editorial and business - have been among its
invaluable assets through the years.
The DAILY STAR is, perhaps, one of the few community newspapers
in the country with almost 100 percent of its staff having Journalism
and Mass Communications degrees from among the finest schools in
its editorial staff.
Two of its key personnel hold masteral degrees in Journalism from
two major universities in the United States and two others are working
on their M.A. diplomas from the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo
de Manila University.
Believing in the development of its human resources, The STAR
regularly sends its staff to numerous national and regional trainings
conducted by the Philippine Press Institute, the Center for Press
Freedom and Responsibility and other media organizations. The trainings
provide the STAR writers with an opportunity to upgrade their skills
in specialized forms of writing and updating their competencies
in editorial and business management, among others.
Adding substance to the news and editorial pages are the writers
of the Oriental Negros bureau, which was led by Alex Pal since it
started 10 years ago and now by banker-turned media man Rene Genove.
The STAR has almost 20 columnists who share with their readers
their views and perspectives on far ranging issues and social affairs
affecting the community.
Providing a welcome balance to the STAR reading fare is StarLife
Sunday, the weekend edition of the publication, which focuses on
inspiring stories as well as travel and personality features and
timely commentaries by writers from both the Occidental and Oriental
side.
The hardworking business office personnel - led by pioneering
staff Maja Dely and assisted by Weena Magturo, Hernand Garciniego,
Ronnie and Rommel Galvan - are responsible for ensuring that the
business side of newspaper operations is sound under the guidance
and supervision of Administrative Officer Carlo Leonardia.
Readers, especially those away from Bacolod City, continue to have
their access to Negros news through the STAR's online edition at
www.visayandailystar.com.*
