Advertising is the lifeblood of every news publication.
As such, witout its advertisers, a newspaper cannot survive. In
its 25th year, The Visayan Daily Star pays tribute to its loyal
advertisers that have stuck with it through the good and the bad
times. Its advertisers have always been the DAILY STAR's partners
in bringing news and information to the Negrense community since
1982. The familiar logos and taglines that its readers see and read
everyday are the ones that saw through this newspaper through the
years and enabled it to bring to its readers the news and features
about the community that it serves.
As the DAILY STAR's advertising coordinator, Maja Dely,
puts it the advertisers generate income for the newspaper, and it
is through their unwavering support that this newspaper is able
to hit the newsstands everyday.
The DAILY STAR cherishes its partnerships with PO's Marketing,
Prudential Guarantee, and Bascon Hotel, among its loyal advertisers.
And, of course, there are still others. The Philippine Airlines,
Lopue's San Sebastian, Lopue's Mandalagan, Lopue's East, Ava Construction,
Bacolod Triumph , Bacolod Steel Center, Pizsas, Appliance Centrun,
IEC Computers, BCG Computers, and Pacific Motor Parts.
Lucy Ponce, owner of one of the DAILY STAR's loyal advertisers,
Po's Marketing, says she has "worked hand-in-hand" with this newspaper
from the start, not only as an advertiser, but also once as a business
consultant, to ensure that advertisements keep coming in.
Ponce had helped DAILY STAR tapped greeting ads for new
establishments opening in Bacolod, and because she belongs to the
local Chinese-Filipino community, her fellow Chinoys have followed
her lead in turning to DAILY STAR for their advertising needs. Indeed,
until now the local Chinese-Filipino community remains the newspaper's
most loyal clients, says Dely.
Ramon Kilayko, vice president of Prudential Guarantee, has
made his company's logo a permanent fixture in the DAILY STAR's
pages for two decades now.
"Since (our company) started in 1987, we have been advertising
with DAILY STAR. That's 20 years," he said.
Kilayko said that with DAILY STAR being the most widely circulated
local paper, their company advertisements go a long way.
Robinsons Place, the first full-service mall in Bacolod, also
takes pride in its decade-long advertising partnership with the
DAILY STAR.
"We are grateful for the long-standing, good relationship
between Robinsons and the DAILY STAR. We appreciate their services,"
Christine Tomas, marketing communications manager of Robinsons Place
Bacolod, says.
With a widely circulated newspaper like the DAILY STAR, "we know
we can effectively communicate our message," she adds.* NLG
