Man injured as bus,
motorcycle collide

A jobseeker driving a motorcycle on his way to Bacolod City collided with a Ceres bus in San Enrique, Negros Occidental, at about 4:35 p.m. yesterday and sustained injuries on his head, his right elbow, and left hand.

The police are still investigating the details of the accident.

Anthony Lobaton Lot, 30, of Block 15, Cityville, in Bacolod City is now confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital. Lobaton's brother, Adonis, 13, said Anthony has been waiting for a call for a possible job before the incident. He told the DAILY STAR that two of their older siblings, a manager and a packer, are also working for a liniment manufacturer.

Anthony's mother, Luisa, said she hopes Vallacar Transit will help them with the hospital expenses.

She added that she did not know her son was going to Bacolod City and that he was not wearing a helmet.

Anthony was transferred to the Doctors' Hospital at around 6:30 p.m. yesterday. Hospital officials said they can not issue a medical bulletin yet, but said Lobaton was conscious. * PP

CANDIDATES TOLD
Don't collaborate
with enemy of state

The military yesterday warned candidates who will collaborate with the enemy of the state, in order to win in the May 14 elections.

Lt. Col. Norman Flores, 61st Infantry Battalion commander, said collaborating with the New People's Army is not a guarantee for a candidate to win as they profess. "It is a public knowledge that the NPA collect permit-to-campaign fees to beef up their finance and logistics, and not to ensure victory for candidates who collaborate with them," Flores said.

He added that the payment of campaign fees to the insurgents is the highest form of collaboration a Filipino citizen can commit against his country and people.

Flores said the insurgents will employ various modes to ensure the collaboration of candidates, through the so-called command, negotiated, mass and alliance votes.

In all of these modes, the people are abused and disenfranchised as they are not given a free hand to exercise their right of suffrage, he said.

Flores reiterated that the Army will assist candidates, regardless of political parties, in clearing areas frequented by rebels as they can campaign freely.

Alab Katipunan secretary-general Ben Solilapsi said they will campaign and expose candidates who are paying campaign permits to the New People's Army. He clarified that they are not participating in the election.

Flores warned individuals or groups who resort to violence to ensure that their candidates win.

"The Army will take strong actions against such candidates, individuals and groups," he added. *GPB
