As soon as the 900th Air Force Weather Group arrives from Manila
this week, the cloud-seeding operation in Negros Occidental will
start, Dennis Penuela of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist,
said.
Penuela who is the coordinator of the operation, said they
have prioritized the southern portion of the province but that,
everything will depend on wind speed and direction.
He added that the planned cloud-seeding can last for one month
or until the rain comes.
Earlier, Gov. Joseph Maraņon said they have allocated P 1 million
to help induce rains because the long dry spell was drying up crops.
Although rice in irrigated areas are surviving, Maraņon said cane
leaves in southern Negros are turning yellow. Citing reports from
the PAGASA, Penuela said this year's dry spell is worse compared
to last year's.*NB
