NPA: We will disarm,
engage 'armed goons'
BY GUILLERMO TEJIDA III

The Leonardo Panaligan Command of the New People's Army warned that it will disarm and engage in battle armed goons of politicians who coerce voters during election, a statement from the group said.

The NPA said it referred to the ambush on March 9 of "armed goons" of a local politician led by the slain Barangay Captain Lydio Baylon, in La Libertad, Oriental Negros.

It said that Baylon, who was killed with six other civilians, had a standing order for liquidation from the revolutionary government. The NPA statement said that one of the casualties, Rudy Maxilum, also had a warrant of arrest from the reactionary government but was hired as a goon by the local politician.

Disqualification case
filed versus Limkaichong
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

La Libertad mayoralty candidate Napoleon Camero has filed a disqualification case against incumbent Mayor Jocelyn Limkaichong questioning her citizenship, before the Commission on Elections in Manila.

Camero claimed, among others, that Limkaichong was born of a Chinese father and a Chinese mother, and is not qualified to run for Congress representing the 1st district of Oriental Negros. Under her certificate of candidacy, Limkaichong said she was born on November 9, 1959 and at the time of her birth, her parents were both citizens or subjects of China.

This was based on the certification issued by Danilo Almeda, chief, alien registration division of the Bureau of Immigration in Intramuros, Manila.

Cops raid illegal cockfighting
BY RENE GENOVE

Police raided illegal cockfighting and illegal gambling activities held during the Lenten holidays in Sitio Dawis, Barangay Canlargo, Bais City and in Sitio Bato, Barangay Basak, Zamboanguita, Oriental Negros.

In Zamboanguita, operatives raided "cara y cruz" and "tigbakay" activities and confiscated various paraphernalia used by the maintainers of the illegal gambling games, and two fighting cocks with gaff in the makeshift arena. The maintainers of the illegal trade, bettors and spectators escaped, however.
